Pet Stain Removal
It is essential to start the cleaning process immediately.
Start by blotting up any liquid with paper towels or absorbent rags placed over the spot. Step gently on the rag or paper towel and increase pressure until your full weight is on it. Switch towels or rags until no more liquid can be absorbed. Make sure you remove any loose debris to avoid rubbing it into the carpeting or flooring.
For fresher stains, its is best to apply a bacteria / enzyme digester from a pet store and follow the directions on the package. Be sure to apply enough solution to reach as far down as the stain might have reached into the carpet padding. You can also try spraying a 1:1 water and white vinegar solution on the stain then blotting the liquid up with a rag or a some paper towels. Adding a few teaspoons of baking soda to the vinegar mixture might help with more stubborn stains.
Its best to avoid using any ammonia based products on your pet stains. The ammonia smells similar to pet urine and tends to cause you pet to urinate in the same area again as a natural reaction to its scent. This is also why it is important to clean the area thoroughly and eliminate the oder as much as possible.
Some older stains are hard and sometimes impossible to remove. If the stain can't be removed using the methods above, it might be necessary to call a professional deodorizing specialist or replacing the carpet entirely.
