Cleaning Grout
To clean out grout, try starting with simple cleaning solutions and gradually moving up to more harsher chemical cleaners only if necessary.
A simple solution of white vinegar diluted with an equal part of water or a paste made of baking soda and a little water might work. You can spray or apply the cleaner onto a small length of grout and scrub lightly with a brush in small circles to remove small debris. Rinse well with water and mop up the remaining moisture with a sponge of paper towel.
Some generic household cleaners such as Lysol, Mr. Clean, or various powder-based cleaners can also work if used as directed on the packaging.
For more stubborn stains you can try a commercial tile and grout cleaner. Look for a cleanser that is pH balanced so that the chemicals won't erode the grout.
Sometimes it might be necessary to use stronger products such as oxygen bleach powder, hydrogen peroxide, or chlorine bleach. These products need to be diluted before use. They can be found in hardware stores or janitorial supply outlets. Be sure to read the directions on the package carefully and follow every procedure exactly as directed on the label.
When using commercial house cleaning product, make sure the area you're working in is well ventilated. Make sure you use gloves and eyewear when using any chemical based cleaning product. Never mix cleaners together because they may cause chemical reactions that might produce noxious fumes or burn your skin.
